Race to the Straits (2 May 2026)

All registered skippers will receive admission to the mandatory pre-race skipper meeting (food AND beer provided), entry wristband(s) to the halfway party in Port Townsend held at the Maritime Center (includes an onsite BBQ experience by Bubba’s Country Cue + hosted beer and wine all with a view!) + moorage in Port Townsend + 2 full days of racing and awards/prizes.

This race is limited to the first 90 boats, limited spots are subject to change at any time based on availability.

Additional Halfway Party Admission wristbands- $60

All registered boats will receive either 1 (single-handed) or 2 (double-handed) wristbands for entry to the halfway party included within their registration. Additional Halfway Party Admission wristbands are for any additional non-racing crew members, friends and family who may want to join in the fun! This wristband allows entrance to the Maritime Center where attendees will receive a full BBQ dinner including a hosted bar which includes both beer and wine options. Non-alcoholic beverage options will also be available.

Memorial Day Mystery Bay Raft-Up.

May 23-25, 2026

Please join us for this jam-packed 3-day weekend cruise to Mystery Bay. Raft up with fellow STYC sailors for some interesting on-shore activities, and perhaps polish up your Bocce Ball skills. On the cruise docket: an outdoor BBQ potluck dinner; a goat farm tour, a picnic at the winery, a charming local Tractor Parade... Tiny Nordland General Store is now back open for business. That said, Please provision your boat accordingly for the entire holiday weekend.

Navigation: The entry to Mystery Bay can be very Tricky. Please source out & refer to all your own tide, current, & chart information you will need in order to navigate the winding narrow Kilisut Passage entrance safely. This year the high tide on Sat 5/23 will require an early start from Seattle, but Monday 5/25 looks god to departure homeward loosely around noon. If you are unsure of your ability to enter & navigate Kilisut confidently perhaps consider spending the previous evening at anchor in nearby Glen Cove Kala Point, or in Port Townsend. Option: refer to your land charts & drive in.

New for 2026!!! Rumor has it the dock has been newly fixed with new pilings. Vessels should still have a dingy to skiff into our staging ground at the small Mystery Bay State Park. Likewise, you will also need an Anchor! There are only 2 State Park mooring balls that are still usable. This was very well managed last Memorial Day by all our boats

Cruise Reservation Sign-up: Please sign-up on our STYC website for the cruise so that we can manage head counts for each activity. This is IMPORTANT.

We are looking for Volunteers to drive-in for the day on Sunday May 24 & help shuttle sailors up to the Vineyard. Volunteers will be gifted free entrance to the goat farm tour/activities. Please reach out to cruise chair Kristina Southard at cruise@styc.org or Sara Schroderer at Volunteer@styc.org to arrange. This is a Great way to become involved with our cruising program, especially if you don't have access to a vessel of your own. We are a volunteer organization and we Thank you in advance for your he[p on this particular cruise.

About Mystery Bay: All but hidden on the inside of Marrowstone Island, Mystery Bay State Park offers a great escape for visitors arriving by water. This is one of our most popular STYC cruises. Boaters can raft up or lay anchor and stroll along the grassy and gravelly shoreline or enjoy the inlet’s pristine waters. Bring along a kayak or paddle board for daytime recreation on the water. Reserve a campsite at Fort Flagler. There is an organic goat farm that offers tours on making goat cheese, a renowned island vineyard for an organized wine tasting. Take in the Olympic mountain views from the shoreline picnic area about 80-100 yards from the raft-up. Cook up your own burgers, oysters or clams in one of three fire rings on shore and enjoy an island sunset before heading back to your boat. Fort Flagler is approximately 2 miles from Mystery Bay (about a 15 minute dinghy ride). Tour and explore a significant coastal defense fort established more than a century ago to guard the entrance to Puget Sound.

2- 5pm - Wine Picnic & games @ Marrowstone Vineyard

* The purchase 1 bottle of wine per person is required in order to partake in the winery Event.

7 pm - Potluck (BBQ?) Dinner on the beach

Monday May 25 - 10 am - A visit to Force 10 tall ships sail loft

This 3-day distance cruise has become a hallmark event for STYC. All activities planned are optional. Each boat & Drive-in member will be required to sign-up for each event separately within the registration screen so we may have a proper head-count.

Sloop Tavern Yacht Club is excited to announce our 6th Annual Women at the Helm Race Series. The first in the series is Women at the Helm: Going the Distance, a typical buoy race with the goal of sending racers on a long course to maximize sailing time and fun!

What makes Women at the Helm different from our other races? This series specifically requires a female-identifying or non-binary person to helm through the whole race. This doesn't mean only one person can helm; in fact, we encourage crews with several qualifying helmspeople to rotate through who is at the helm!

Awards will be handed out on the marina plaza after the race!

Sloop Tavern Yacht Club is excited to announce our 6th Annual Women at the Helm Race Series. The second in the series is the Women at the Helm Regatta, a typical buoy race with the goal of completing up to three short races in the vicinity of West Point and Spring Beach.

What makes Women at the Helm different than our other races? This series specifically requires an eligible person (please see NOR below for details) to helm through the whole race. This doesn't mean only one person can helm; in fact, we encourage crews with several eligible helmspeople to rotate through who is at the helm!

Everyone who races will receive one raffle ticket and additional tickets will be given to those who helmed, if it's your first time helming a race, and if your whole crew consists of qualifying helmspeople! Tickets will be passed out at the awards and after-party on the marina plaza after the race. Thank you to those who have sponsored our event so far, including Maiven Sailing, Ballard Sails, Seattle Marine Canvas, Backstay Logbooks, Rough & Tumble Pub, Fisheries Supply, and CSR Marine! **UPDATE: Join us on the marina plaza at 6:00 PM (the day's racing permitting) for the after-party with snacks and drinks! The awards will be announced at 6:30 PM and we will have the raffle right after awards!**

We are also excited to announce that once again we are planning a pre-race social the night before the race at Rough & Tumble Pub, to coincide with the skippers meeting. Come hang out starting at 5:30 PM and grab some snacks and drinks with your fellow racers prior to the skippers meeting at 7:00 PM! Note, we will still have the virtual skippers meeting running for those unable to attend in person.

Race entry is free for STYC members and $35 for non-members.

Calling All Spooky Slooper Troopers!

2025's Great Pumpkin Race is almost upon us. We've made some calls and asked the Great Pumpkin to bring us wind for the now penultimate race in our season. Check out the SI's on the website for more information. We can't wait to see you out there squashing the competition!

Your event coordinators have put together a fun event this year, "an" amount of candy and possibly some additional treats. We hope you can carve out some time to join us.

In case you don't podium in this race, there is an extra chance to satiate your Halloween gourd. We invite crew to join the costume contest with a special prizes going to the boats with:

"Sloopiest" Slooper for the individual who really squashes the rest of the competition

Skipper's Meeting will be held on Friday, October 17th at the Fall Membership/Volunteer Appreciation Party held at Salmon Bay Eagles. An online option will be available.

Instructions:

Travel to five destinations in a row/column/diagonal and take photo evidence you were there to make bingo! Remember to take advantage of our excellent reciprocal moorage program.
If you complete a single bingo, you can continue to complete additional bingos on the same card or request a more difficult card for an additional challenge.
Volunteer! STYC is an all volunteer club. Email volunteer@styc.org for great opportunities including:

Notes:

All STYC Cruise Registrants and their guests are expected to adhere to STYC Community Guidelines during the event, and follow proper reciprocal etiquette
Many reciprocals require you to fly your club burgee, some require you to present your member card.
Not all bingo locations are suitable for all boats - you are always responsible for safe operation of your vessel
Cruising Bingo is free to participate, but does not include moorage costs, and reciprocal requirements vary.
Some STYC organized cruises may have additional costs that are optional based on the activity.
No need to actually use reciprocal moorage at the locations - we're just highlighting our Reciprocal program. Just be sure and and get to the location and get some evidence.
Travel by boat is expected except to Sloop on land social events like the Volunteer Appreciation party.

Awards will be presented at the Holiday Party after our final cruise of the year, the Kingston Dark & Stormy
